Embroidery work of Andrew Sedgwick Guth

Andrew Sedgwick Guth constructs a personal folklore that navigates the intersection of queer identity and the digital gaze. Drawing from his Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, Guth reappropriates the aesthetic language of Protestant tradition (specifically the intricate craft of fraktur and mourning embroidery) to canonize the contemporary queer body. By situating his subjects within 'gentle and mystical environments,' he subverts heteronormative symbolism, offering instead a sanctuary for vulnerability. His practice functions as both an observation of and participation in modern social rituals, weaving together astrology, mythology, and the technological pressures of the 21st century to explore the tension between intimacy and the public performance of self.
