In his solo exhibition Para governar a natureza com pés de ferro (To govern nature with iron feet), João Guilherme Parisi investigates the intersections of power, body, and historical appropriation. Through extensive research into museum archives, Parisi selects and reimagines historical tapestries—originally symbols of political and economic dominance—depicting hunting scenes, biblical passages, and moralizing triumphs. By transposing these narratives into paintings and metaphorically subjecting them to the act of "stepping," he desacralizes their authority and creates a stage for contemporary debate. Parisi’s work ironizes these traditional symbols of control while maintaining a commitment to aesthetic beauty, using the past as a tool to explore and contest the power structures of the present.
