“Untitled” (Go Go Dancing Platform) (1991)

Created in 1991 during a period of profound personal grief and the height of the AIDS crisis, Felix Gonzalez-Torres’ “Untitled” (Go-Go Dancing Platform) is a meditation on visibility and the passage of time. The work consists of a light blue stage surrounded by glowing bulbs, which remains empty for the majority of the exhibition. At unannounced intervals, a dancer briefly occupies the space, moving to the private rhythm of a personal music player before vanishing once again. By blending the celebratory energy of nightlife with a sense of fleeting presence, Gonzalez-Torres transforms a public spectacle into a quiet reflection on loss and memory. The platform serves as a powerful symbol of the bodies that have been lost to history and the enduring spirit of those who remain.
